AES is a chemical analytical method for the quantitative analysis of various elements, especially metals. It is suitable for oils and consistent lubricants and, in addition to characterisation, is particularly useful for assessing used lubricants.
AES can be used to determine wear metals and impurities. Depending on the nature of the particles, however, components can only be found in the oil up to a size of 5 µm. Larger particles settle too quickly in the oil or can not be determined in the apparatus for technical reasons.
